Marea Boutique Hotels

QR ordering for a boutique hotel group, from the sun lounger to the kitchen.

This is the real guest menu running on a sample menu. Browse it, open a dish, add it to the basket. Nothing is ordered and no kitchen hears about it.

The project

What it is.

Marea Boutique Hotels wanted guests to be able to order food and drink without queueing at a bar or installing anything. A QR code on a sun lounger, a table or a room opens a menu scoped to that exact spot, and the order arrives where the guest already is.

Every code maps to a service point, inside a service area, inside a property, so one system runs a pool deck, a rooftop bar and room service at the same time, each with its own menu. Menus keep their own hours: a breakfast menu closes and an all day menu opens on the property's clock and on the right days of the week, not the guest's phone clock. The server re-applies the same rules when an order is placed, so a tab left open overnight cannot sneak a breakfast order in at midnight.

Before the first order a guest confirms the room they are in, checked against the surname the room is booked under. The response is worded the same whether the room does not exist or the surname is wrong, so the form never confirms which rooms are occupied. A property that would rather not ask can switch verification off and the session opens on arrival.

Staff get their own side of it: a live order queue with an alert sound, a menu editor with photo uploads and option groups, printable QR sheets for every service point, refunds, and web push so the bar hears about an order when nobody is watching the screen.

Inside

What it does.

01

A code per lounger

Service points inside service areas inside properties, so the same install runs several hotels and every code knows exactly where to send the order.

02

Menus that keep hours

Availability by time of day and day of week, resolved against the property's timezone, and enforced again server side when the order is placed.

03

Verification without a lecture

Room number and surname, checked once per session, with one response for a wrong surname and an unknown room so the form never leaks which rooms are taken.

04

Room charge or card

Stripe for card payments, per property, with the keys held encrypted rather than in environment variables so each hotel keeps its own account.

05

A queue the bar can hear

Web push and an alert sound on the staff queue, plus a scheduled job that chases an order nobody has picked up.

06

Installs like an app

A progressive web app with its own icon and offline shell, so staff can keep the order queue on a phone behind the bar without an app store.
